Helicopter design, characteristics, and controls.
This is a good book for the layperson who wants to learn how helicopters function and why. It is easily read and understood and would be good from around age twelve and up. It covers aerodynamics basics and advanced, as well as actual design and construction. A wise choice for someone who is thinking about home built aircraft or radio controlled models, specifically, helicopters.

A Helping Handbook : When A Loved One Is Critically Ill
Published in Paperback by Marco Press (12 December, 2000)
Authors: Stephanie Waxman and Stanley J. Waxman
Average review score:

Highly Recommended when Loved Ones are Ill
When my friend was diagnosed with colon cancer and was hospitalized, I was at a loss for dealing with the experience. Although I have dealt with illness, her protracted bouts of surgery and chemo were overwhelming to me. The Helping Handbook captured my feelings of helplessness and the inevitable anger at doctors and hospitals, while providing recommendations on what to do. By writing my thoughts in the book, I selected possible actions I could take with the doctor and regrets I could express to my friend. Although I searched book stores, I have never seen another book so useful and compassionate for this situation. Stephanie Waxman's writing is comforting to read, like getting advice from a good friend. Her father must have been an exceptional person -- his poetry captured the feelings I was experiencing during this trying time. Now that my friend is doing better, I have time to send friends copies of this book in their time of need. Ms. Waxman has provided a outstanding and insightful book about dealing with critically ill loved ones.

Great Read about a Great Designer
This is a well-written biography about one of the leading industrial designers of the 20th century. Anyone who has ever marvelled at the simple elegance of the 'round' thermostat has Henry Dreyfuss to thank, and this book tells much of his story.

Degenkolb's Oral History is interesting!!!
Henry J. Degenkolb was an interesting indiviual, from being a prominent structural engineering firm owner to a dedicated profession in organizational activities. I liked this oral history because it gave me a feel for who Mr. Degenkolb was and what he did. I recommend this and the other Oral History books available from the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute.

Average review score:

A Book that is truly THE benchmark
This book - the 1633 revision of the 1597 "classic" - is truly THE benchmark for any herbal to follow. With almost 3000 listings and about 2700 illustrations, it is far closer to "complete" than any work I have yet seen under 1 cover! It lists under botanical, Latin, folk and English names. Obviously a life's work. A pleasure to behold, all 10 pounds of it!

Holy Boldness: Women Preachers' Autobiographies and the Sanctified Self
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Tennessee Pr (October, 2002)
Author: Susie C. Stanley
Average review score:

Holy Boldness - A Must Read!
Dr. Susie Stanley's book, Holy Boldness, is a must read for anyone interested in religious vocation, women's journals, women in ministry, women's contributions to the calling and profession of ministry. Stanley's feminist perspective is much needed by a majority of the church today and offers hope for understanding the past and moving us toward the inclusion of women in all the sacred halls of a male dominated clergy and religious institutions. The lives of the women ministers that she profiles are filled with courage and faithfulness. Stanley's scholarly book is a work of reconciliation writing into "history" the lives and stories of women who have been marginalized by their churches and yet have prevailed in doing the work for which they were gifted and to which they were called. I recently purchased this book for a young woman graduating from a School of Theology. She is in the company of a great cloud of witnesses some of whose names and stories we now know thanks to Dr. Susie Stanley.

The Holy Spirit: A Pentecostal Perspective
Published in Hardcover by Gospel Pub House (August, 2001)
Authors: Anthony D. Palma and Stanley M. Horton
Average review score:

Theological Book on Pentecostal Position
Dr. Anthony Palma represents the heart of the new emerging breed of theologians in the classical Pentecostal position. Now retired, Dr. Palma was a distinguished professor at the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, MO (AGTS).

This book offers a much deeper and more theological position of the Assemblies of God on the person and work of the Holy Spirit. Most of this book was originally published in a small book form simply entitled THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT. Several new chapters were added on the person of the Spirit and hence this book.

This is a technical book and a person not fimiliar with theology or theological terms would not enjoy this book. Dr. Palma also is a Greek scholar and will inject word studies in his chapters that so need them.

One of the main reasons to buy this book is Dr. Palma's dealing with the initial, physical evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit (which he defines as speaking in tongues). Dr. Palma seeks to offer another approach to initial evidence while remaining classical Pentecostal in his approach. He also challanges the Pentecostal interpretation of John 20:22 as the new birth of the eleven disciples of Christ.

You will enjoy this book if you are seeking a deeper theological position on the Pentecostal view of the person and work of the Spirit.

Horse Sweat and Powder Smoke: The First Texas Cavalry in the Civil War (Texas A & M University Military History Series, 66)
Published in Hardcover by Texas A&M University Press (November, 1999)
Author: Stanley S. McGowen
Average review score:

Excellent book on the history of the 1st Texas Cavalry
Congratulations to Stanley S. MacGowen for this excellent book. I most enjoyed reading it. It gives the most complete and detailed overview on the history, the leaders, and the horsemen of the 1st Confedarate Texas Cavalry Regiment (also known as the First Texas Mounted Rifles). The book covers the regimental history from the time the regiment was raised by Colonel Henry McCulloch to defend Texas frontiers against indian warriors over the time the regiment was part of the Confederate Armee under the Colonels Augustus Carl Buchel and William Overall Yager until the end of the Civil War. Even being not correct at some details such as the origin of Colonel William O. Yager (Yager was not a German immigrant. He was born in Viriginia and graduated at the Virginia Miliraty Institute) the book has a high value to all interested in the History of Texas and the War between the States.
